7 Dead Including Suspect After Shooting at A Tennessee Christian School

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department revealed that on Monday morning, a 28-year-old heavily-armed female assailant from the local area who had once been a student of the Covenant School – a Christian educational institution in Nashville, founded in 2001 and catering to 200 students from preschool to 6th grade – had fatally shot three children and three staff members at the premises before being shot and killed by police.

The female suspect had accessed the building through a side door, wielding two assault-style rifles and a handgun and began shooting her way up the first floor, eventually firing off ‘multiple shots’ on the second. Upon arrival, police personnel on the scene heard shots coming from the second floor, where they subsequently encountered the woman, who was shot dead by two officers on the team.

Commenting on the tragedy, President Joe Biden described the deaths of six individuals, three of whom were elementary school children, as ‘sick’ and implored Congress to take further steps in passing gun-control legislation.

At the same time, John Howser, spokesman for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, confirmed that three pediatric patients with gunshot wounds had been received at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, only to be pronounced dead upon arrival.

Meanwhile, three staff members of the school also succumbed to gunshot injuries, and a police officer sustained minor cuts from broken glass.
