California’s Film Commission has given the green light to 48 new film projects under its latest tax credit allocation, fueling an estimated $664 million in production spending across the state. The mix spans independent films to major studio blockbusters, including a highly anticipated sequel, One of Them Days 2, and a new Netflix feature that alone will receive $20 million in credits.
According to state officials, these projects are expected to generate more than 6,500 cast and crew jobs and over 32,000 background-performer work days—an economic boon that directly benefits California communities.
Why it matters:
California’s film tax incentives have long been a cornerstone of Hollywood’s staying power amid fierce competition from other states and countries offering attractive rebates. By helping to keep high-budget productions local, these credits sustain thousands of union jobs, support small businesses, and reinforce the state’s reputation as the world’s entertainment capital.
The latest round of approvals highlights California’s commitment to maintaining its production base despite the industry’s shifting landscape and the rise of global filming alternatives.
