Cate Blanchett Wears Unique Spoon-Inspired Top, Highlighting Sustainable Fashion Trends
Oscar-winning actor Cate Blanchett turned heads at a Los Angeles red carpet event, wearing a top uniquely crafted from over 100 antique spoons. The Australian star donned the halter top by Swedish brand Hodakova at the “Borderlands” fan event on Tuesday. Designed by Ellen Hodakova Larsson, the piece features 102 antique spoons sourced from the Swedish countryside.
Hodakova is known for incorporating heirloom objects into her designs and is committed to sustainability. In a statement sent to an inside source, the brand shared its mission “to build the first fully sustainable fashion house in the world and change the fashion industry’s perspective on the possibilities of circularity.” By transforming old materials into luxurious goods, Hodakova “crafts stories through repurposing and conceptually upcycling everyday found materials into one-of-a-kind pieces.”
This dedication to sustainability aligns with Blanchett’s own values. The actor is known for re-wearing red carpet looks, a rarity in Hollywood. Last year, she donned a custom Alexander McQueen suit to two different film premieres, four years apart. Blanchett has long been an advocate for environmental causes, even installing solar panels on the rooftop of the historic home of the Sydney Theatre Company during her tenure as artistic director in 2010.
This isn’t the first time cutlery has made its way into couture. During London Fashion Week in February 2023, Turkey-born, London-based designer Dilara Findikoglu created a show-stopping gown out of antique knives, later worn by stars like Emma Corrin and Hari Nef.
