Jeanette McCurdy’s Memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died” is making its mark
Writer, director, and former actress Jeanette McCurdy has released her autobiography, “I’m Glad My Mom Died” in a book where she describes her childhood and the traumas she experienced throughout her early career. The 30 year old opens up in this memoir about the challenging relationship with her late mother, Debra, hence the jaw dropping title.
Early on McCurdy got her start as a child actress on a Nickelodeon television show called iCarly and then the spin-off “Sam & Cat”. An excerpt from the biography on her website www.jeanettemccurdy.com: “She went on to star in the Netflix series Between, and had a short-lived country music career with Capitol Records Nashville. Despite her outside success, McCurdy felt ashamed of 90% of her resume and ultimately unfulfilled, so she turned to alcohol, but since that didn’t work, she quit acting and began pursuing writing/directing in 2017.”
The cover of the book, “I’m Glad My Mom Died” is the author with a narrow half-smile on her face, holding a pink funeral urn with confetti strands peeking over its rim. Both the book and the one woman theatre show, has made quite the splash in the world as she tells the truth about her exploits as a child actress, her controlling late mother, and struggles with obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders and anxiety. McCurdy discusses in depth how her mother controlled what she wore to auditions, her dietary habits, and the former actress could not do anything without the mother’s approval. Overall the book is not what it seems initially, as true to her personality the book also has humor and light hearted moments.
Fellow Former Nickelodeon star Josh Peck has also commented on the book release and even commends her for bravery in coming out with the truth. “My friend Jeanette wrote a book and it’s out today She’s brave, funny, and thoughtful in ways few are.” He also added “Get it today!”
