Rapper Tory Lanez is Found Guilty on All Charges in the 2020 Shooting of Megan Thee Stallion
After days long trial, the jury deliberated for nearly four hours before returning a guilty verdict on one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. According to reports, the rapper faces up to 22 years in prison and deportation to his home country Canada.
The trial began earlier this month with witnesses and evidence presented by the prosecution. During the proceedings, a videotaped conversation between Lanez and Megan was played in court, in which the rapper can be heard pleading “not guilty” to shooting his ex. Other witnesses included the arresting officer who responded to the scene and friends of Megan who said that the rapper had fired multiple shots at the singer during the altercation.
The defense team attempted to paint the incident as an act of self-defense, claiming that Lanez fired only after being threatened by Megan’s friend. However, the jury rejected this argument and determined that the rapper was guilty of all three counts.
On December 23rd, 2022, Tory Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion. After an intense trial, over 20,000 family, friends, and fans have signed a petition against the decision. They claim jurors rushed their decision and say Lanez is being used as a scapegoat, even coming after Jay-Z and the music industry.
It is not over.
