Season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race will broadcast on MTV

For the start of season 15 and onwards, RuPaul’s Drag Race has found a new home, much like Willow Pill’s face inside a suburban dream home. On January 6, RuPaul’s Emmy-winning reality competition series will move from its longstanding network home of VH1, where it has resided since season 9 in 2017, to MTV.

There hasn’t been much said about season 15, except from the fact that it will feature the 200th episode of the show and a new season of its companion series Untucked. In a previous interview, RuPaul said, “When I hear season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, I have to pinch myself somewhere. “We never take for granted the chance we’ve been given to present top-notch drag and share real queer tales. We’d like to extend our gratitude to the audience, World of Wonder, VH1, our cast and crew, and—most importantly—our courageous and attractive queens.”

The move to MTV is a part of ViacomCBS’s efforts to take the Drag Race brand international. This expansion will also include three new spin-offs of the show for MTV and Paramount+ in Brazil, Germany, and Mexico, as well as a new Global All Stars competition.

World of Wonder CEOs Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato remarked in a news release that they were “delighted to deepen our cooperation with MTV Entertainment Studios.” “There has never been a more crucial time for the international expression of the common ideals of love, self-expression, and acceptance than right now. We are thrilled to continue our objective to highlight the beauty of drag in various languages and cultures thanks to Chris McCarthy, Nina L. Diaz, and their amazing team at MTV Entertainment Studios.”

Drag Race first premiered in 2009 on the gay network Logo. Subsequent international editions are now available to stream on WOW Presents Plus, and some All Stars seasons, notably All Stars 6 and All Stars 7, are now available on the Paramount+ platform. Iterations of RuPaul’s Drag Race have been produced in Chile, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Canada, Holland, Australia/New Zealand, Spain, Italy, France, the Philippines, Belgium, and Sweden since the show’s debut season. It has also become a global sensation. It has won the Emmy for Outstanding Competition Program four times, and because to his efforts on the program, 12-time winner RuPaul presently owns the title of Most Decorated Black Artist in TV Academy History.
