Andrew Tate is a controversial British-American kickboxer and internet personality. He is well known for his unhinged views. With his successful kickboxing career aside, some say that Tate has gained notoriety and fame (or infamy). This is for sharing his controversial views in interviews and on social media. Tate is also a commentator and part-owner of Real Xtreme Fighting, which is the largest MMA promotion in Romania. Tate was born Emory Andrew Tate III on December 1, 1986, in Washington D.C., USA. Notably, he is the son of the late American international master of chess, Emory Andrew Tate Jr. (Essentially Sports, 2022)

Controversial online influencer Andrew Tate has been detained in Romania. He’s been held on charges of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organized crime group, authorities confirmed. (The Guardian, December 2022) The former kick-boxer and reality TV star, has been banned from many social media platforms for misogynistic comments and hate speech. He was arrested alongside his brother and two other suspects. They would be detained for 24 hours. Prosecutors from the anti-organized-crime unit revealed this in a statement after raiding their properties in Bucharest.

According to people.com, the suspects and homes are connected to an investigation dealing with human trafficking, an organized crime group, and rape.  A press release from the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism explains. While all suspects were not identified, a lawyer for Andrew, 36, confirmed to Sky News he and his brother, Tristan Tate, were detained. The two British Americans were arrested alongside two Romanian suspects, according to the press release.

A spokesperson for Andrew told the Daily Mirror, “We cannot provide any details at the moment regarding alleged reports that they have been detained. Andrew and Tristan Tate have the utmost respect for the Romanian authorities and will always assist and help in any way they can.” It is unclear who is representing the Tate brothers to comment on their behalf.
